In addition to having a valid motorcycle license, you will need to provide us with proof of insurance. Whether full-coverage motorcycle insurance, or automobile insurance that will cover you, make sure that you are covered when renting a bike. We only provide minimal liability insurance (as mandated by CA law), anything above and beyond that, is your responsibility, so make sure you are covered.
If you do not currently have existing insurance, but want to rent a motorcycle from us, you can place your reservation through the Twisted Road platform, as they will provide you with insurance coverage, as part of you placing the rental booking through them. Some of our clients, especially visitors from other nations, typically choose this option. So please visit; https://www.twistedroad.com/users/desert-moto-rentals as it can resolve your insurance coverage concerns. If you have any questions about this, just give us a call!
Remember, your are financially responsible for any loss of or damage to the bike you are renting, and for anything that you damage while renting it, so insurance is a must.
Know your riding limits. We don't want you to take any of our bikes off-road. If you choose to ride off-pavement anyway, understand that the risk of damaging the bike and getting hurt, increases substantially. The desert has areas and trails with deep and loose sand, rock and boulders, making it very difficult to ride, unless you have real experience riding on those surfaces. Do not underestimate the difficulty of the terrain, nor overestimate your abilities, as an off-road rider! You are responsible for any damage to yourself, any caused to the bike, or other equipment, or property.
To rent one of our motorcycle, you do need to be at least 25 years old, have a valid motorcycle license, full motorcycle/automobile insurance, and minimum of 4 years of real motorcycle experience.
We are a local family owned small business, not some big corporation with a huge fleet of the more typical rental motorcycles. We operate a limited number of motorcycles, that grew out of our love and collection of a variety of 2-wheeled machines. We often like what many people consider more non-typical bikes, and exclusive/unusual brands that we feel are special.
Once we decided to offer daily motorcycle rentals, we wanted to offer both dual-sport and street machines. But we also wanted offer easy-riding motorcycles, in both of those categories. Because that will offer you, our visitors to the area, a ride where you can enjoy our spectacular surroundings, and geography, as opposed to try to figure out a new complicated machine, that you only have for a limited time.
Yet, we still we want you to ride something fun and non-typical. That, is the reason why the bikes you see on here, are more unusual and not what is typically available for rent at other places. We picked them because we really love them, and we hope that you will too!
Please take good care of your rental. They are not part of some big corporate fleet program, We picked and paid for every single one of them because we love them. So we expect you to show extra care to avoid any damage, or scratches etc.
In order for you to be sure, that the bike of your choice will be available when you want to pick it up, we strongly suggest that you reserve it here online, or, by calling us with a credit card. If you book it, it will be there when you come to pick it up (unless something unusual beyond our control has taken place)
Please understand that without a paid reservation, we can not hold, or even promise you that any given bike bike will be available when you show up. Can you just call us the day you want to ride? Sure, but please don't be upset if we do not have what you want to suddenly rent, or in some cases - anything at all!
So, please reserve your wanted bike in advance. If your plans change, you can certainly cancel that reservation (please section see below).
If you are booking through Twisted Road, they typically need 24 hours to process, so book in advance.
While we try to take Sundays off, if you have made an appointment, we will be there to meet you as we are in the office for all scheduled pickup, and drop-off appointments.
If you are NOT going to be on-time for your 9AM pickup appointment, make sure you notify us as we are not always in the office, given that we also operate guided tours, and related services throughout the day. So please communicate any changes to your pickup, or drop-off times, and we will do our best to accommodate you.
If you have a reservation, and need to cancel it for whatever reason, we have no problem offering you a 100% refund, as long as the cancellation is provided more than 72 hours in advance of your pick-up, and acknowledged by us.
If less than 72 hours in advance, but still more than 48 hours in advance, a 75% refund will be provided. Even if cancelled only 48 hours in advance, we will still offer you a 50% refund.
We will not issue refunds on any cancellations (or no-shows) made less than 24hrs in advance, since we make sure the bike of your choice is serviced, fueled and cleaned prior to pick-up. In addition, because it deprived other customers the opportunity to reserve/ride that day, and that would not be fair.
We include 175 miles/day when you rent a bike from us. A few extra miles? Fine, but anything more than 200, will be charged at $0.50/mi. This applies to all of our rentals.
Please note, we can not permit any of our motorcycles to enter Mexico.
